The Benefits of a Private Yoga Lesson
In recent years Yoga has become popular as people discover its benefits including the positive impact it has on physical, mental and spiritual health. And fans of Yoga are spoilt for choice as it has become increasingly more accessible, through studios, gyms, and online classes. Considering how easy it is to access a Yoga class, why would anyone want to book a private yoga lesson?
“I’m new to Yoga”
If you’ve never tried Yoga before then the idea of being new to class might be daunting. Whilst teachers should make everyone feel welcome, often they’re too busy to give a beginner the time they might need to be properly introduced to Yoga. As a result, total beginners can feel nervous about taking part, unsure of what they should be doing, when. If you’re a beginner, a block of private yoga lessons is the ideal introduction to Yoga to enable you to build enough confidence to move into a group setting.
“I have an injury or illness”
The first time you attend a yoga class in a gym or studio you’re almost taking pot luck on the style, level, theme. Obviously, a good teacher will offer plenty of adjustments and props to support your practice, but the class won’t be optimised to you and your needs. If you have an injury or an illness you might find that some, even much, of the class is inaccessible to you, for example, if you’re working with lower back pain you might struggle with a class full of moves that put the back into flexion or extension.
A private class gives you the chance to work with the teacher supporting you in moving through poses that complement any injury or illness you’re working with, meaning that you are more likely to get what your body needs from your practice.
“I have experience, but I want to deepen my knowledge”
It’s not just beginners who benefit from private yoga lessons – people also choose them to deepen an already established practice. Students who want to learn more advanced postures and practices, such as balances or pranayama (a heady form of breath control), benefit considerably from one-to-one tuition.
“I don’t have time to go to class”
Whilst there are an abundance of Yoga classes on offer, it could be that their timing doesn’t fit in with your schedule. A private Yoga lesson will work around your schedule and you’re not committed to a specific time or day. Plus, depending on your preferences, a teacher can travel to your location (which makes it very easy to commit to your practice).
“I can’t find the right class for me”
Finding the right class can sometimes be a struggle; the beauty of private Yoga lessons is that you can decide what you would like to work on, and the class is tailored to meet you exactly where you are. If you have tight hamstrings, a sore lower back or stiff shoulders, just tell your teacher and they’ll provide the perfect remedy. Perhaps you’d like a longer meditation, or to deepen your knowledge of Yoga philosophy - you’re paying to receive the exact benefits you need, which is a level of flexibility you won’t find in a public class.
